This morning I lay in bed thinking about today...the first thing that came to mind was a sweet tart. As a kid, I loved the way a sweet tart tasted when you first put it in your mouth. Sweet and smooth, after a while a tart taste caused me to spit it out.
The end of the school year is just like a sweet tart to me. The thought of lazy summer days, long runs, late mornings and no schedule is oh SO SWEET! The tart comes, when I have to say good bye to the precious personalities that filled my room all year.
This is what a few said about what they loved about 1st Grade...
Zach - "field trips and my mealworm (he already died)"
Altwaime - "math tubes and recess"
Haytham - "lunch"
Maggie -" I don't know if I can think of one thing"
Meredith - "laughing with my friends"
Keeley - "my friends and my teacher"
Cecilia - "learning about "
We ended the day with one of my all time favorite books (it is the one I most remember reading as a kid). The Emperor's New Clothes. I love the lesson, if you know you know that you are right about something, don't give in. What a great lesson to leave 1st grade on. Make good choices and stick to what you know is right.
With a tear in my eye, I am thankful for a break to rest and spend time with my family. I thank you for sharing your most precious gift with me and letting me learn with them! Have a restful summer and DON"T FORGET TO READ!

We're OUT of 1st Grade!
This time of year is always fun. Today was the We're OUT of first grade celebration. We started the morning reading outside. It was a great sight to see kids huddled around books. We have been working all year to build reading stamina. Today was a great celebration of that training.
Our favorite part of the day was the cook OUT! Nothing is better than the smell of hot dogs grilling. All of 1st grade enjoyed a hot dog picnic. Thanks Mrs. Pearce and Mrs. DiPaolo for helping with the food.
We ended the day with a Chill OUT! Classes stretched out in the cool AC and enjoyed movie and dessert. Each class made their dessert. We made cupcakes. Yummy!
I know everyone went home tired. Enjoy your 3 day weekend. Next week is sure to be bitter sweet!

jump WHAT???
Today was walk or bike to school today. I am so excited that I was able to ride my bike, and enjoy the fresh morning air. Students that walked or rode, were treated to a healthy breakfast on the front steps. The fun ddin't stop there, we had an early morning character education program in the front parking lot. BMX bikes were flying, and even made a jump over some special objects...
The picture says it all...DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!
Syndey and Reagan were a little more nervous than me, sydney said "WE were holding hands and crossing our fingers that he would make the jump." Caden said, "If he had missed the back wheel would have been on your tummy!" Good for me he didn't miss, or land on my tummy!

To Dust or Undust?
First through third grade was really treated today! Herman Parish, the nephew of the creater of Ameilia Bedeila, visited our school. We learned all about how her books came to be. I know I loved reading these books to my kids. As a class, we loved thinking about all the things that Amelia would mess up!
