Frosty showed a day late!

Frosty came a day late for White Out Day! We still made it out to recess. Some friends bundled together to stay warm!

Fa la la la...

This is the best time of the year! There is nothing like a sing along to spread holiday cheer!

Not COLD, but COOL!

It may not have snowed, but we still had a cool day.  First graders looked like little snowflakes dressed all in white.  We stayed busy cutting snowflakes and writing about why we are special.  The high point of the day was building sugar cube castles.  After lunch, we had an old fashioned snow ball fight.  We ended the day with a little lesson in weather (trying to explain why it doesn't snow in Houston) and enjoyed Frost the Snowman and an all white snack!

Thanks for making it a great day!

Fire Fire!

Today we had a real treat!  Thanks to Station 57 and Captain Dixon for coming (2 times) to visit with First Grade about fire safety and being a fireman.  We were all gathered to listen, when they received a call and had to rush out.  We were so happy when they came back to finish up.  Mr. Dixon put on all his fire gear and showed students what it would like if they had to come rescue us.

This was a great follow up to the Fire Fighter article we read a few weeks ago.  Students used their reading skills to infer what brave meant.  We wrote facts and opinions (my favorite fact was from Maddie ... "My dad is a firefighter"), and used text to support our thinking.  Wow!  What a great way to close up the learning activity!

Welcome to JOHNSON-WORLD

Astroworld may be gone, but JOHNSON WORLD is here!  We designed and built roller coasters to test our knowledge of motion.  Look at some of the great designs.

America is BEAUTIFUL!

We have worked so hard to learn about our great country!  Students wrote about the symbols we studied.  After learning about different facts and making some of our own opinions, we worked in groups to write scripts for the following voice thread.  Thanks Mrs. Lewis for helping with the recording!

I hope you enjoy these sweet little voices and the great country they are representing!
