Today we had a real treat! Thanks to Station 57 and Captain Dixon for coming (2 times) to visit with First Grade about fire safety and being a fireman. We were all gathered to listen, when they received a call and had to rush out. We were so happy when they came back to finish up. Mr. Dixon put on all his fire gear and showed students what it would like if they had to come rescue us.
This was a great follow up to the Fire Fighter article we read a few weeks ago. Students used their reading skills to infer what brave meant. We wrote facts and opinions (my favorite fact was from Maddie ... "My dad is a firefighter"), and used text to support our thinking. Wow! What a great way to close up the learning activity!
