As we continue through the year, we continue to develop our skills as thinkers. Today we showed our thinking in different ways. First we acted it out, next we build a representation and finally drew our representation. Students paired with other students to share their thinking with some great math words.
Alex and Edward said "the pattern was one more every day"
Ashley and Patrick said "the total was odd"

Growing in lots of ways!
This time of the year I see great growth! In addition to personal growth, we are growing all kind of plants. Yesterday we planted our own bean plants. Today teams of students planted 6 different seeds ( pea plants, corn, marigold, rye grass, sunflowers, and ??? I will update tomorrow when I can remember). We observed the different seeds. Each week we will record our observations and keep you updated! Be sure to follow our growth!

Getting our hands dirty!
Today we took the classroom outside. We continued our study of plants by planting begonias. Students saw the roots, held all the parts of the plant, and reviewed what a plant needs to grow.

It's a BOOK CLUB, 7 year old style!
WOW! We love our new books! Today students were able to lead their own book club. They made predictions and shared their thinking. They even were able to check for understanding by looking up new vocabulary words and confirming their meaning. This is a little clip of the group (minus Claire) recreating their work! Thank you to PTA and SBISD for our new books!

We're building a zoo
We are applying what we know about measurement to recreate the things we saw at the zoo. Next time you are at school, drop by the 1st grade pod and see our zoo. This is a great way to learn by providing a relevant experience. Our zoo is really taking shape!
A WILD trip!
The weather started out as a WILD, but the black sky cleared for a beautiful day! We are using our measurement unit to bring the zoo back to Meadow Wood. I can't wait to show our students' creations

Problem Solving - making a BIG picture!
This week we have been focusing on problem solving. Today we "acted it out", and then showed it as a representation. The kids thought it was funny to put cookies in Mr. Johnson's mouth. After building our picture, we used math words to show what we knew. I love problem solving, and this was a fun afternoon.
