Today we took a little break to build some T-E-A-M! Students were paired with a partner and given one crayon. Each student placed their hand on the crayon. They were given 3 minutes to draw a picture without talking. After 3 minutes, we shared our pictures. Students concluded, the best pictures came from those partners that worked together (hands working together, not just taking turns driving the crayon)!
This was a super way to start Monday.

SKYPE - we have new friends!
Ask your students what Skype is? Today we learned a new verb and put it into action. We were able to skype (or video call) a 1st grade class in San Antonio. This was a great way to kick off our unit about Texas. Mrs. Balido's class, from Scobee Elelmentarty, had great questions for us. We were able to notice all the things that we have in common and some differences in our 2 schools.
We have plans to skype again in the next week. They will be gathering information about San Antonio, while we look for things about Houston. We can't wait to share our information.
Mrs. Johnson's favorite part was when Mrs. Balido asked a question to both classes. The students thought it was neat when Keeley was called on to answer the question that came so many miles away!
Just another way to make learning interactive and real!

Going with the flow!
This week we have been looking at water sources and the path it takes to get to our home. Today the students made their own hand signs to show the path from river to faucet. This has been very REAL to them because of the summer's drought. I hope you enjoy their performances as much as we did today!

Rain Rain, stay today!
Wow! We LOVED indoor recess! It was a great time to get games and use our BIG pod area. Kids played with other kids, taking turns and sharing! Plus the sound of rain was a welcome sound during reading time!

Short but, Oh So Sweet!
Wow! We are back and in full swing! This has been a very short week, but well worth the learning. We started the week setting goals for the new year. Her are a few...
Zach "is going to feed his dog and not his food"
Jake "is going to concentrate in school and do his best"
Keeley " listen to my family and teacher"
Haytham "to follow directions"
Anabelle "read 4 chapters every day"
Mohammad "finish my homework on time"
Anna " help mom with chores, like setting the table"
Lindsey "organize her book shelf's"
Some kids may have told you about the mystery backpack that I found...we have used clues from the backpack and things we know about those clues to try and find the owner. I think we have the mystery solved...Make sure to ask about the owner!
